vista parcial del pueblo del Paují
|
The Paují, is a community located at 80 km. from Santa
Elena de Uairén.
The road heading towards this settlement is divided into
two sections, the first is paved and in good condition
and the other half is unpaved and is significantly
deteriorated, to the point where there are even some
fallen bridges on certain routes. This is why in order
to arrive there, a vehicle with double traction is your
best choice. It is a Creole community, not an Indian
one, that lives freely in these lands in the south of
Venezuela where tranquillity is their best neighbor. |
|
The Paují consists generally of middle aged people who
have come from diverse areas of Venezuela and the world
and have decided to come live in this area, enjoying
nature, working in handcrafts and in diverse
tourism-related occupations.
Today in the Paují there is a center of communications
making it easier for this community to communicate
dynamically with the outside world. It is a very
tranquil and calm place to take a tour, in which you can
find lodging, experienced guides, and plenty of tourist
attractions in and around the area..

TAKAMAJAKA..
ARTESANÍA E INGENIO EN EL PAUJÍ |
|

|
The takamajaka
is a product invented in the Paují using tools
fabricated by the ingenuity of its creators. The
Takamajaka is in short, a pleasant-smelling incense
of very good quality which has reached the national
market.
We had the opportunity to talk with its creator, a
Brazilian who chose to live in this area, known as "Paulista
Carballo", who in the company of his wife "Isabel
Sanabria" and other helpers, have kept this domestic
business moving forward. They
have even set up old auto parts which now serve as
tools to manufacture these incense. So
don’t forget when visiting the Paují to pass buy and
check out these and other products also made here.
We also spent some time with Wilfrido Prieto and his
wife Rosa Elena, who make unique crafts. Wilfredo
is a master working with the stone of the Gran
Sabana, which he manages to polish and sculpt it in
an impressive manner.
He also
carves wood with great skill. In
turn, his wife decorates bags and shirts with
distinctive traits of the area. In conclusion, the
Paují is a community filled with highly skilled
craftsmen who make a living from tourism, although many
times they go unrecognized.. |
